La Siesta Premium Hang Be: A Hanoi Boutique Masterpiece
Tucked into the atmospheric Old Quarter on Hang Be Street, La Siesta Premium Hang Be is one of Hanoi’s finest boutique hotels — a property that manages to blend French colonial elegance with contemporary Vietnamese design in a way that feels effortless. We checked in for four nights during the cool December season, and from the moment the doorman welcomed us with a warm lotus tea, we knew this would be a memorable stay.
Location & First Impressions
The hotel occupies a restored colonial shophouse just steps from Hoan Kiem Lake and the iconic Ngoc Son Temple. You can walk to the Weekend Night Market in under five minutes, yet the property feels remarkably serene once you step through the heavy wooden doors. The lobby is a study in refined minimalism: cream limestone floors, silk lotus flower arrangements, and the faint aroma of agarwood incense.
Our Deluxe City View room on the fourth floor opened onto a small Juliet balcony overlooking the terracotta rooftops of the Old Quarter. The space was generous by Hanoi standards — 35 square meters — with a king bed dressed in Egyptian cotton, a rainfall shower with Diptyque toiletries, and a hand-painted silk headboard depicting a lotus pond at dawn.
What We Loved
- The rooftop Red Bean Restaurant serves what may be the best pho bo in the Old Quarter. We ate breakfast here every morning — the bun thit nuong was exceptional, and the egg coffee rivals Cafe Giang just two streets away.
- The spa offers traditional Vietnamese massage using warm herbal compresses. After a long day of walking through the 36 streets, the 90-minute treatment was exactly what our legs needed.
- Service culture is where La Siesta truly shines. Staff remember your name, your preferred pillow firmness, and even the temperature at which you like your tea. One evening we returned to find a handwritten note and a plate of fresh-cut dragon fruit waiting on the nightstand.
Rooms & Amenities
The property has 40 rooms across four categories: Deluxe, Premium Deluxe, Junior Suite, and the top-floor Executive Suite with a private terrace. All rooms feature soundproofed windows (essential in the Old Quarter), smart TVs with international streaming, Nespresso machines, and pillow menus with memory foam and buckwheat options.
The ground-floor cafe is a hidden gem for remote workers — fast Wi-Fi, excellent ca phe sua da, and a quiet courtyard garden that feels miles away from the motorbike symphony outside.
Value for Money
At roughly $120–160 per night depending on the season, La Siesta Premium Hang Be occupies the sweet spot between luxury and value. You are paying for location, design, and service rather than facilities like a swimming pool or gym — neither of which exist here. For travelers who plan to spend their days exploring Hanoi and return to a beautiful, peaceful sanctuary at night, this is one of the best investments you can make.
Pro Tips
- Request a room on the fourth floor or higher — the views are worth the extra stairs (there is an elevator, but it is small).
- Book the Red Bean dinner at least 24 hours in advance. The tasting menu ($35) is one of the best fine-dining values in the city.
- The hotel offers complimentary airport pickup if you book directly through their website — a $25 savings.
Who Should Stay Here
Couples and design-conscious travelers will fall in love with La Siesta Premium Hang Be. It is less suited to families with young children (no interconnecting rooms) or business travelers needing conference facilities. If your Hanoi itinerary revolves around the Old Quarter, the French Quarter, and food tours, this hotel puts you at the center of everything while providing a genuinely beautiful place to rest.
Final Verdict: 4.8/5 — A boutique hotel that understands the difference between decoration and design. The service is warm without being obsequious, the location is unbeatable, and the Red Bean restaurant alone justifies the nightly rate.
